Virtual Proteins at Entry 2006

Virtual Proteins is represented at Entry 2006 with a specially developed prototype of our Virtual Proteins MicroLab and the Virtual Proteins Labroscope. Entry 2006 is an international design exhibition which will take place from the 26th of August until the 3rd of December and is held at the newly opened former coal-washing plant, the “Kohlenwäsche”, at the Zollverein, redesigned by Rem Koolhaas, the famous Dutch architect. During 100 days, 300 exhibits from over 20 countries will be on display in the Kohlenwäsche.

Entry 2006 wants to give the visitor an exciting insight into the world of design and architecture. The focus is on design, the motor of the creative sector and a competitive and innovative economic factor of the future. The main exhibition, which will be housed in the former coal washing plant, that has been redesigned by Rem Koolhaas, will showcase ‘perspectives and visions in design’ for 100 days. A total of 300 exhibits from over 20 countries will be on display to the public. About 40 other events will serve as a platform for the presentation of design ideas and products, will build bridges between companies and designers, and will create opportunities for the forging of business partnerships. Zollverein has already earned itself an international reputation as a design hub. The exhibition is subdivided in five sections. “Second Skin” will showcase the use of new materials in furniture, fashion, architecture, health care and media. “Open House – Intelligent Living by Design” presents innovative developments in architecture, interior design and communications. The third section is called “Groundswell – constructing the contemporary landscape”, and landscape design and city revitalization is in the middle of this presentation. “Talking Cities” puts innovative international design, architecture and use of space in the forefront.

Virtual Proteins is represented in the section “Wall of ENTRY paradise”, which leads the visitor from classical 20th century design into the future of bits, atoms, neuro- and genetechnology. With the special Virtual Proteins setup for ENTRY the visitor will be able to stand within life-size molecules, as well as to use the Labroscope as intended for research. The visitor will be able to explore the future of molecular research in augmented reality within four dimensions.
